Punta Cana Entry Requirements: Passport, Visa and Travel Documents

For an international flight to Punta Cana, prepare your passport and check entry requirements for your nationality, residency status, route and purpose of travel. Do not assume that a rule for a friend’s passport applies to yours. A driving license or hotel reservation does not replace international travel documents.

Passport validity: check the rule that applies to you

The tourism ministry publishes a general six-month validity requirement and a temporary exception for specified nationalities visiting for tourism through December 31, 2026. The exception requires the passport to remain valid during the stay and departure. Check the official list and dates, particularly for travel after that deadline; do not apply the exception to everyone.

Do you need a visa?

Visa eligibility can depend on nationality and qualifying residency or visas held elsewhere. Use the official entry guidance and Dominican consulate for your specific situation before buying non-refundable arrangements. A completed e-ticket is not a visa approval. Working, studying or relocating requires separate consideration from a holiday.

Return travel and accommodation details

Have your return or onward itinerary, accommodation address and supporting travel documents ready for the airline and immigration checks. Ask the airline about any transit-country requirements as well as those at your final destination. Use consistent names and passport details across bookings.

Children and different family circumstances

Check each child’s documents individually. When a child travels with one parent, another adult or alone, ask the airline and competent authorities which consent or custody documents apply to the child’s citizenship and circumstances. Do not rely on a general family-travel checklist to resolve a custody or nationality question.

For the permitted length of stay, tourist-card treatment or an extension, check the current DGM procedure for your status. A departure fee is not the same as permission to extend a stay.
